Reiki is an ancient healing practice (pronounced “ray-key”) to bring balance to the body, mind and energetic body layer. Reiki helps us cultivate deeper spiritual connection by clearing karmic bonds that cause suffering. The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words “REI” meaning Universal Spirit and “KI” meaning life force energy. The laying on of hands can be traced back to ancient times. You will be learning traditional Usui Reiki, a formalized system of Reiki created by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan during the late 1800’s. Reiki is a powerful form of healing that can be used on yourself, family, friends and amimals. Each of us has the power to be a conduit of Reiki healing.

Christie Smirl and Kathy Bolte are leading a spiritual journey to Rishikesh, India in the Fall of 2017 – October 11 through October 20, 2017.This will not be a “tourist” trip. We will not be traveling from one place to another to see as much as we can.

We will, instead, be nestled into Parmarth Niketan Ashram on the banks of the mystical Ganges River, and in the foothills of the majestic Himalayan Mountains. Parmarth is known across India for bringing spiritual seekers from all over the world to its doors to receive its blessings.

The focus of our trip will be to Light Up Our Abundance. We will gather daily, in circle, for practices that will help us identify and bring to life the many expressions of abundance in our lives. We’ll learn practices that will help us cultivate & celebrate this abundance.

We’ll do daily yoga, practice meditation and kirtan. We’ll learn sound based practices to aid in the cultivation of abundance. We’ll learn ayurvedic practices to create abundant health. We’ll engage in many of the rituals practiced at the ashram like evening Ganga Aarti (fire ceremony at the river), and Darshan (receive blessings) with H.H. Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, the spiritual leader of the ashram. We’ll celebrate Diwali, one of the most honored holidays in India, and we’ll relax into the ancient energies of Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga.

There will be a couple of day trips – to explore the infamous Beatles Ashram, and to sit in the palpable spiritual energy at Vasistha Gufa (the ancient meditation cave of the sage Vasistha). We’ll take a ferry boat across the river to attend kirtan at a local music school. There will be plenty of time to take a dip in the river, go shopping, explore the city and walk across the two famous bridges, Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula, and there will be lots of opportunity to enjoy the many monkeys and cows who will be curious about you.

If you would like to try a Rishikesh adventure, you can go white water rafting on the Ganges River. And if your muscles get a little sore, there are wonderful ayurvedic massages to be had.
